James was found as a stray puppy who suffered severe head trauma, damaging both of his eyes. His left eye was hanging out of its socket when he arrived at the WHS, and it had been for some time. It couldn’t be saved. James’ mouth was FULL of broken baby teeth from the injury, making it too painful for him to open his mouth. Dr. Bowen, WHS Director of Veterinary Services, immediately removed James’ left eye and broken baby teeth to relieve him of pain. Imagine being in so much physical pain you couldn’t stand up. You couldn’t eat. You couldn’t walk. And you couldn’t tell anyone what’s wrong because you’re a dog. This was Mickie’s reality.
