WHS removes puppy’s leg after hunting trap incident

It was the worst day of Fleece’s young life. The 12-week-old Shepherd puppy stepped on a hunting trap causing some large wounds on his front left leg. He was in intense pain and all alone until he was found and brought to us at the Winnipeg Humane Society. But because of your help, Fleece’s worst days are behind him. Spay and neuter clinics set up in northern Manitoba

The Winnipeg Humane Society Clinic are going to Norway House and Cross Lake from November 6-10 for spay and neuter clinics. The northern Manitoba clinics are possible because of a joint-effort with the WHS, Norway House Animal Rescue, the community of Norway House, Norway House Cree Nation, Cross Lake, and Pimicikamak Cree Nation. The northern clinic will help improve animal health in an area impacted by animal overpopulation and with few veterinary services. National Pet Obesity Awareness Day sparks the question: Is your pet a healthy weight?

How much your pet is fed on a daily basis can be a perplexing question to answer as it depends on your pet’s breed, size and exercise routine. Oct. 12 is National Pet Obesity Awareness Day and a day of celebration for Kristie Bailey and Nala, her English Bulldog. Nala was obese when adopted from the Winnipeg Humane Society (WHS) and Bailey helped her seven-year-old dog lose over 20 pounds through proper diet and exercise. WHS’s grass-fed gala beef sets new farm animal welfare standard

For the first time in the 23-year history of the Bow Wow Ball gala, the Winnipeg Humane Society (WHS) will serve grass-fed, humanely raised beef. Extending and Inspiring Compassion

The Winnipeg Humane Society’s Farm Animal Compassion committee presents Nikki Chapen’s free public lecture: Inspiring Compassion, Putting our Ethics on the Table. The lecture will take place in the WHS Classroom on Thursday, September 1 at 7 p.m. Chapen’s talk will focus on understanding the animals we often think of as food and extend our circle of compassion to include them.  She also addresses factory farming practices and provides information and tips on making more compassionate food choices. WHS Full: Homes needed for hundreds of pets

A spike in incoming cats to the Winnipeg Humane Society has put the organization at capacity. Homes must be found immediately. Effective immediately and throughout July cats can be adopted for free  to $20; $100 for kittens and $179 for two kittens. “If you have ever considered adopting a cat, now is the time,” says WHS CEO Javier Schwersensky. “Our shelter is at capacity and we must find them homes as soon as possible, or else we face the sad reality of euthanizing them.
