Waverley underpass construction update

Notice of temporary weekend closure – July 6-9, 2018 As part of the Waverley Underpass project some changes to the CN Mainline at Waverley are required. One of these will involve raising the existing rail line by approximately one foot above its current elevation. To accommodate this and future stages of the Waverley Underpass project, the rail and Waverley detour road crossing will be reconstructed. Dear WHS Friends, Some of you may have heard that the WHS has implemented a “scoring system” for animals coming in. There has been some questions about what it is, so we feel it’s important to clarify what it is, and why we are doing it. James doesn’t need eyes to see your love

James was found as a stray puppy who suffered severe head trauma, damaging both of his eyes. His left eye was hanging out of its socket when he arrived at the WHS, and it had been for some time. It couldn’t be saved. James’ mouth was FULL of broken baby teeth from the injury, making it too painful for him to open his mouth. Dr. Bowen, WHS Director of Veterinary Services, immediately removed James’ left eye and broken baby teeth to relieve him of pain. James undoubtedly pushed through extreme pain to survive on his own, all alone at 3-months-old. … Continued

Imagine being in so much physical pain you couldn’t stand up. You couldn’t eat. You couldn’t walk. And you couldn’t tell anyone what’s wrong because you’re a dog. This was Mickie’s reality. When Mickie came to the WHS, he was in extreme pain and needed immediate care. His bladder was FULL of stones and infected. He was constantly leaking bloody urine. If you’ve ever had bladder stones you’ve experienced how painful they can be. But perhaps not on the same scale as Mickie… 57 stones were removed from Mickie’s bladder during a 2-hour surgery.
