Please join the Winnipeg Humane Society in speaking out against inhumane and unnecessary animal scrambles.

The issue:

Animal scrambles exploit juvenile animals solely for human entertainment purposes and provide no agricultural, historical or educational purpose to fair and rodeo events. Scrambles see young calves and pigs placed in brightly lit, enclosed arenas where they are rushed upon by children and youth. Attempts to chase, grab, tackle and pull at the young, vulnerable animals are made part of the spectacle. Such scrambles also intentionally subject calves and pigs to unnecessary fear, distress and potential injury, all for the sole purpose of entertainment. Despite attempts to discuss our views on animal welfare with fair organizers over the years, our concerns have gone largely unanswered.

What you can do:

The Winnipeg Humane Society is urging our supporters to sign and share the petition asking for an immediate end to calf and pig scrambles scheduled during the Royal Manitoba Winter Fair. Supporters are also urged to edit and submit the following template letter to fair organizers at the following email address. We encourage supporters to amend comments in the letter to make them more personable and likely to receive a response. Please join us in sharing the petition and call to action far and wide. Together we can protect young, vulnerable animals from these unnecessary forms of entertainment.
