You saved Bailey from her reality

“Hi, my name is Bailey. Today I want to share my story. When you look at the photos you can see I was in terrible pain, but the Winnipeg Humane Society changed that. Life with my family started well. I wore this thing around my neck that jingles when I walk around. I like the jingling because it tells mom and dad I’m nearby. And, as I grow, my neck starts to hurt. Suddenly the thing around my neck (I think it’s called a collar) started cutting into me. My neck was in lots of pain. I try to tell … Continued

Cats’ lives saved by Winnipeg Humane Society

Cats that wander the streets are at an increased risk and danger of serious injury. Whether the cat is a stray from cat overpopulation or owned and allowed to roam outside, the number of cats in need of urgent care never ceases to astound The Winnipeg Humane Society (WHS). In the last two weeks, three cats brought to The WHS had gaping wounds, skin ripped away and burned, and a variety of broken limbs. Stix arrived with an extensive section of the skin torn off her tail and burns on the hind legs. Clinic staff needed to remove her … Continued

Season’s Greetings from Snowflake

It’s amazing how much can change in a matter of months. If dogs could talk then Snowflake, the standard poodle that was severely burned in a car collision, could tell you as much. In just a few months, Snowflake has progressed from a downed dog in critical care to her usual happy-go-lucky self. Snowflake and her owner Wade stopped by The Winnipeg Humane Society in December for a visit with the clinic staff that cared for her during part of her recovery. Veterinarians Dr. Anseeuw and Dr. Youngs were greeted by an enthusiastic Snowflake. She was eager to say hi … Continued

Puppy with crushed feet will walk again, thanks to Winnipeg Humane Society

Mittens, a fluffy five-month-old Corgi-Sheltie mix, was hit by a car. His two back legs were severely injured and he did not receive treatment for his injury. He was in severe pain. He couldn’t walk. However, thanks to The WHS and supporters like you he will walk again. Due to extensive damage and infection, the right leg will be removed. The crushed bones of the left foot are healing but because of the degree of trauma will require a prosthetic, eventually allowing the puppy, named Mittens, to walk without pain.  Surgery on Mittens will be conducted by Dr. Erika Anseeuw, … Continued
