WINNIPEG, January 12 –The Board of Directors of The Winnipeg Humane Society (WHS) are pleased to announce that Jessica Miller has joined the WHS as Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Her official start date is February 15th, 2021. Miller is not new to the WHS, having served on the Board of Directors since 2018 and being a past WHS employee. An inspirational leader, Miller brings key strengths in planning, providing strategic direction, leveraging partnerships, and mentoring teams to the WHS.

“I cannot express the gratitude I feel to join an organization that lives the mission and vision of compassion,” said Miller, who is well respected in the animal advocacy world. “The WHS has a talented team, hundreds of devoted volunteers, a dedicated Board of Directors, and many external partners – together we will speak for those who cannot speak for themselves, we will protect all animals, and promote their welfare and dignity. I am excited for our future.”

Miller served as Vice-President, Marketing and Communications for the St. Boniface Hospital Foundation over the past six years, which brought many prosperous and public facing fundraising campaigns to fruition. Miller began her career working in media relations as a publicist for Global Television, later joining the Winnipeg Humane Society as the Event, Marketing and Sponsorship Specialist. Miller studied Communications and Public Relations at the University in Winnipeg, and Creative Communications at Red River College.

“Jessica is a lifelong animal advocate who believes strongly in the Winnipeg Humane Society’s mission,” said WHS Board chair Dr. Jonas Watson. “Her years of experience in the non-profit sector and her fervent commitment to animal welfare will undoubtedly serve her well in this leadership role. The WHS, our board, and the city of Winnipeg will be very lucky to have her at the organization’s helm. Jessica will be the perfect CEO for a Winnipeg Humane Society of the 21st century.”

Jessica Miller will be available for interviews the week of January 25th.
