Due to the ever-changing circumstances in the world right now, we have thought of some unique and exciting ways to offer you the same great programs here at the Winnipeg Humane Society.

Our goal here in the Education Department has always been to help support future Humane Educators develop their passion for animal welfare, which is why we are excited to introduce virtual presentations that are accessible right from home.

We understand a lot of parents and/or guardians are now struggling to work from home in addition to providing quality homeschool for their little ones. First off, way to go to all you “Super Parents”! That is not an easy feat and we want to take a moment to celebrate all that you continue to do during these trying times.

We are now offering our popular Pet Empathy sessions virtually. So, whether you’re a parent or guardian looking to enhance your child’s understanding of animals, or a teacher interested in incorporating animal welfare into your classroom curriculum, these presentations are here for everyone and anyone interested in learning more.

Our 6 Pet Empathy sessions will touch upon topics such as:

  • Basic and Emotional Needs
  • Personal Space
  • Conflict
  • Stress
  • Self-care
  • Loss

While discussing the importance of each topic, we will also connect these issues back to animals. So, whether your child is familiar with any or all the above topics, remember there is always room to learn more and to practice these important lifelong lessons.

For those familiar with our Pet Empathy sessions, you know that the best part for most children is interacting with one of our special Dog Ambassadors. Of course these videos will lack that opportunity, and we understand the disappointment that may come from this (it’s our favourite part of the sessions too!), but rest assured we have taken some time in each video to still introduce you to one of our special furry friends! Our pups are equally as excited to get back out there and continue working with your children.

We know that this will in no way change the current circumstances that we are all facing, but we hope that these videos will provide you and your children with at least a moment or two away from the chaos. Not only are these presentations informational, but they star a pretty cute pup as well.

Our hope is that everyone can take some time out of their day to sit down and enjoy these presentations, and rest assured these are just the first of many virtual programs to become available.

Please note that our current fees have been waived for the time being; all we ask is for a donation if you are willing and able to do so.
