Dogs & Storks: Preparing the Family Dog for Life with Baby
Dogs & StorksTM offers positive, practical, and fun solutions to challenges that may arise when a family with a dog adds a baby to the household. This two-hour workshop is bursting with tips and information that gets families started immediately in preparing for life with a dog and a baby under one roof. Participants explore the subtle language of dogs, ways to include their dog before and after baby arrives, and many more tips and ideas that help with a smooth transition. Classes are held at The Winnipeg Humane Society (45 Hurst Way). Although it is a 2-hour session, we allow extra time for the many questions participants have afterward.

What Is My Dog Saying? Understanding Canine Communication
Dogs are talking to us all the time. Unfortunately most of us do not speak dog.
Misinterpreting, misunderstanding and just plain missing the cues may lead to a dog’s behaviour becoming more inappropriate as he struggles to manage his environment. His dog way of managing things does not always fit situations in which we expect our dogs to be successful.
What is My Dog Saying? helps you better understand what your canine friends are saying to each other, other animals, and you. The result? You and your dog are more likely to be ‘on the same page’, resulting in better adoption matches, more effective training, wiser decisions about dog park and daycare play and an enhanced ability to help your dog in stressful situations.
Class is held in The WHS classroom, located at 45 Hurst Way. Note: this class is for humans only!

Dogs & Toddlers
There might not be anything cuter than a toddler with a puppy or dog, but precautions must be taken. What at first might seem like a fun play session could turn into a dangerous situation for either your child or dog.
Dogs & ToddlersT is ideal for families with dogs and babies who are soon to be crawling or walking. The transition to baby moving can be difficult for your dog and sometimes families are caught off guard when a dog that seems to have been comfortable with baby starts becoming uncomfortable with changes associated with their baby’s development.
Workshop Outline:
- Must-know information for parents who have toddler-aged children and dogs
- Advice about common trouble spots between toddlers and dogs in a home
- Practical solutions, from do-it-yourself techniques to hands-on help
- Insight into how your changing family dynamics may affect your dog
