New Twist on an Old Favourite: The WHS Used Book & DVD Sale Moves Online

The annual Winnipeg Humane Society Used Book & DVD sale is run by an amazing committed team of volunteers who plan months in advance to achieve its fund-raising success. Little did we know, this year a pandemic was going to impact all of our activities resulting in the cancellation of the sale. The traditional in-person sale held every spring, packed wall-to-wall with shoppers looking for their favourite author, was just not responsible nor feasible in our current state.

The team took the opportunity, like many not-for-profit organizations faced with the same challenge to their fundraising events, to try something new.

For the first time in twelve years, the WHS Used Book & DVD Sale will be online.

Starting August 17th and running until September 30th the WHS Curated Used Book & DVD Sale will offer an exciting and fun way to support the animals!

Select a package that will includes one or many of the following options:

  • Five books for $5
  • Twelve books for $10
  • Twenty-five books for $20
  • Children’s DVD five pack for $5

This gives you the chance to support a “unique-in-Winnipeg” fundraiser by receiving a surprise package of books. Packages will consist of your favourite book genres as selected from a list of over 25 categories. A team of volunteers who have over 4,000 books to choose from will curate your surprise package. A secure online form will allow you to pay by Visa, MasterCard, or American Express.

A curbside service station will be available at the shelter (45 Hurst Way) on Mondays and Wednesdays between 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. and Saturdays 10:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. starting on August 22nd.  Select your pickup day on the form and arrive anytime within the three-hour period. A sign will be posted as you pull into the shelter driveway to help you identify our curbside station.
