James was found as a stray puppy who suffered severe head trauma, damaging both of his eyes.

His left eye was hanging out of its socket when he arrived at the WHS, and it had been for some time.

It couldn’t be saved. James’ mouth was FULL of broken baby teeth from the injury, making it too painful for him to open his mouth.

Dr. Bowen, WHS Director of Veterinary Services, immediately removed James’ left eye and broken baby teeth to relieve him of pain. James undoubtedly pushed through extreme pain to survive on his own, all alone at 3-months-old.

James’ right eye was also swollen from the injury. Dr. Bowen tried to save it with medication to bring down the swelling in hopes that James had some vision left, but it never did, and it became clear James was blind. Eventually, James had surgery to remove his right eye too.

James’ surgeries and care cost just under $2,600 as of today. He is just one example of over 8,000 animals we care for each year. Every animals’ needs vary, and we do everything we can for them no matter the cost – so they can live healthy and happy lives with their future families. We do not give up on any animal in need.

BUT we would not be able to help animals like James every day without your support. Thanks to you, James is now living a pain-free and normal life, just like any other dog.

Our annual 1001 Donations Telethon, presented by Vickar Automotive Group, is coming up this Saturday, March 24 and we need to raise $60,000 so we can keep helping animals in their greatest time of need, just like James.

Please make a donation today and help us reach our goal of raising $60,000. All donations up to $60,000 are being matched dollar for dollar by five generous donors. If we reach our goal, it will be matched to an amazing $120,000 and will change so many animals’ lives.

Then, tune in this Saturday March 24 from 11AM-5PM as we broadcast live from the WHS on Facebook Live (WHS Facebook page), Shaw TV Channel 9, QX104, and 93.4 The Drive to see your donation dollars at work.

Thank you so much for believing in what we do.
