How exciting!! Based on your favourite genres and a choice of a $5, $10, $20 package, you will receive your very own unique book package.

$5 book package will include 5 books

$10 book package will include 12 books

$20 book package will include 25 books

$5 DVD Kids package will include 5 DVDs

When is the WHS book sale this year?

The Winnipeg Humane Society’s Curated Used Book & DVD Sale runs from Monday, August 17, 2020 to Wednesday, September 30, 2020. In this unique event, volunteers will select gently used books based on your choices made through an online form on our website. Our team will then deliver your “surprise package” to you through a curbside pickup service at the shelter.

Are you accepting donations for your sale?

We are so grateful for the support of our community with book and DVD donations. Currently, we are not accepting any new donations. We will keep you posted on social media with information on our 2021 sale and when we will again accept donations.

Why is it online rather than inside the shelter as in other years?

2020 has presented the world with a whole new set of challenges. Social distancing rules related to the COVID-19 pandemic would make the usual book sale unfeasible. It is online this year to keep you and our volunteers as safe as possible. This gives you the chance to support this “unique-in- Winnipeg” fundraiser by receiving a surprise package of books.

How do I choose the books I wish to buy?

To buy your books this year, click on the BOOK NOW button on this page. Choose a package of books online and indicate the genre(s) you would like your books selected from. There are more than 25 categories listed. You may also choose a package containing 5 children’s DVDs for $5.

You will use the online form to select your package of books. Your package options are:

  • 25 books for $20
  • 12 books for $10
  • 5 books for $5
  • 5 children’s DVDs for $5

What categories of books are available?

There are more than 25 categories of books to choose from and are listed on the form.  These categories range from Mysteries & Thrillers, to Romance, Home & Garden, to Biographies, to name a few. You can select books from a single genre or from multiple categories, and our volunteer team will choose the books to fill your package. If we run out of books in a certain category, we will contact you to select an alternative genre. If you select more than one genre for one package, we will try to represent each genre.

Can I indicate book titles I am really looking for, or books I do not want?

The online form can only accommodate general selections by genre. We are unable to fulfill special requests for certain titles or authors at this time.

Are all the books in good condition and can I return them if they are not?

We work hard to ensure all books are in “gently used” condition – when we first sort the books and when we fulfill your online order. Currently, we are not receiving any returns.

What if I receive books I do not want?

We hope you will enjoy the excitement of receiving a surprise package. However, if you receive a book none of your family or friends want to read, please donate it to another charitable cause or save it to donate to our sale next year.

How do I pay for my package?

The online form will allow you to pay by Visa, MasterCard, or American Express on an SSL secure site.

When and where do I pick up my package?

When you indicate your book package, you will also select the date and time for curbside pickup. We will email you a copy of your receipt, which you will present when you pick up your package outside the WHS at our curbside station.

Where is your curbside pickup located?

Our curbside service station will be available at the shelter (45 Hurst Way) on Mondays and Wednesdays between 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. and Saturdays 10:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. You will be asked to select your pickup day and time on the form, and we ask that you arrive anytime within the three-hour period.

A sign will be posted as you pull into the shelter driveway to help you identify our curbside station. It will be in front of the Education Classroom entrance, just slightly around the corner off the parking lot. Volunteers will ask you to sign for your package, so please have a pen ready. In case of poor weather, volunteers may be waiting inside the shelter but will be with you as soon as possible.

What if I am not able to make my scheduled pick up?

Curbside pickup is only available on Mondays and Wednesday between 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. and Saturdays 10:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. If you are not able to make your scheduled appointment, please contact the WHS to reschedule your appointment.

Can I have books delivered to my home?

Our curbside pickup service is run thanks to the amazing team of volunteers and is the only feasible option for book delivery given our resources as a non-profit operation.

What do the funds raised by the book sale support?

All funds raised by the WHS book sale support the care of animals in our shelter. We are so grateful for your support of this fundraiser and hope you will have fun with it! Thank you in advance for supporting our animals!

I still need help, who do I contact?

Please email an additional questions or concerns to volunteer@winnipeghumanesociety.ca.
