Joey was found outside in the cold and brought to the WHS. He was frozen. So frozen that his temperature didn’t even show up on a thermometer. The tiny kitten couldn’t stand or lift his head. His body was weak and limp.

To save Joey’s life, two WHS Clinic staff spent 3-hours warming him up with their own bodies. It was critical that Joey gradually warmed up. If his temperature was rising too fast, he could go into shock and die. Dr. Bowen, WHS Director of Veterinary Services, held Joey against her body during her lunch hour with a hot water bottle. When her lunch was over, Clinic Assistant Benjamin took over and held Joey against his body AND continued to work with his free hand.

Once Joey reached a normal body temperature, he started eating and drinking. Joey went to live with a WHS Foster Family for 38 days, so he could gain weight and grow in the comfort of a warm, loving home before going into adoptions.

There’s all kinds of tools and equipment at the WHS Clinic. There’s bandages, surgery tools, an X-ray machine, and more. But sometimes the best treatment is simply love.

The pure love from WHS Clinic staff, and your donations, saved little Joey’s life.

Our annual 1001 Donations Telethon, presented by Vickar Automotive Group, is coming up on Saturday, March 24 and we need to raise $60,000 so we can keep saving the lives of helpless animals like Joey.

Please make a donation today and help us reach our goal of raising $60,000. All donations up to $60,000 are being matched dollar for dollar by five generous donors. If we raise $60,000 that is matched to an amazing $120,000 to rescue more animals like Joey.

Then, tune in on March 24 from 11AM – 5PM as we will broadcast live from the WHS on Facebook Live (WHS Facebook page), Shaw TV Channel 9, QX104, and 93.4 The Drive to see your donation dollars at work. We will share stories of animals like Joey, along with WHS volunteers and staff who work tirelessly to make sure every animal gets a second chance to live a happy and healthy life.

The reality is we could not save precious animals like Joey every day without you.

Thank you so much for your support.
