1001 Donations: Valentina’s scar is her reminder…

Valentina was living as a stray on her own in a remote community. She was doing anything she could to survive the harsh winter. She was living in extreme pain – suffering from severe burns on her back. As a human, you may have experienced even the smallest of burns and know how painful and irritating the burning sensation can be without treatment. Valentina survived a week injured and in pain before arriving at the Winnipeg Humane Society for help.

WHS clinic staff immediately cared for Valentina’s burns to relieve her pain. Most of her burns were 2nd degree burns, but in some areas 3rd degree burns. Unfortunately, this is not the first time our clinic has seen a wound like this and can say someone probably threw boiling water on her. Despite being very thin, so thin you could see her rib bones, our clinic staff determined Valentina was also pregnant. Valentina wasn’t surviving just for herself, but for her puppies too.

Two weeks after arriving at the WHS, Valentina safely delivered her 8 puppies. If Valentina hadn’t been rescued, her puppies likely would’ve been born outside and wouldn’t have survived the winter. They all will find warm and loving homes thanks to YOU!

Your donations changed Valentina’s and her 8 puppies’ lives forever by giving them the care they needed most to survive. We were able to provide all the medication, surgeries, and food to Valentina and her 8 puppies thanks to your donations.

Our annual 1001 Donations Telethon, presented by Vickar Automotive Group, is coming up on Saturday, March 23 and we need to raise $60,000 so we can keep saving the lives of helpless animals like Valentina and her puppies.

Please make a donation today and help us reach our goal of raising $60,000. All donations up to $60,000 are being matched dollar-for-dollar by six generous donors. If we raise $60,000 that is matched to an amazing $120,000 to help more animals like Valentina this year.

Then tune in on March 23 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. as we broadcast live from the WHS on winnipeghumanesociety.ca to see your donation dollars at work. We will share stories of animals like Valentina, along with WHS volunteers and staff who work tirelessly to make sure every animal gets a second chance to live a happy and healthy life.

The reality is we couldn’t help Valentina and her precious puppies every day without you. Thank you so much for your support.
