WINNIPEG, August 17 – The Winnipeg Humane Society (WHS) is excited to announce a new addition to its building at 45 Hurst Way, due to the generosity of Jim Gauthier in memory of his late wife Joyce. Construction has begun on the Joyce Gauthier Behaviour and Training Centre, which is scheduled to open this fall.

“My wife’s support of The Winnipeg Humane Society has been based on the kindness, love and the extra effort made by staff and volunteers to the animals in their care,” said Gauthier.

The Joyce Gauthier Behaviour and Training Centre will see an increase in programming at the shelter, with more training and agility courses available. It will also give shelter animals more opportunity to work on socialization and behaviour skills while under care at The WHS.

“We are incredibly grateful for this generous gift from Mr. Gauthier,” said Javier Schwersensky, WHS CEO. “This new space will allow us to make a greater impact in our community. We are always looking at ways of enriching the human animal bond and this space will allow us to accomplish this.”

The Winnipeg Humane Society is celebrating the expansion with a cheque presentation ceremony at the The WHS located at 45 Hurst Way at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, August 18.

The Winnipeg Humane Society is Manitoba’s oldest and largest animal welfare agency. The WHS is more than just pet adoption – the shelter offers education programs for children and adults to encourage responsible pet ownership, and a fully-functional veterinary clinic that performs subsidized spay and neuter surgeries for Winnipeggers on fixed or low-income.
