Unleash your inner animal with Winnipeg Humane Society’s “Rags 2 Rescue” day

WINNIPEG, MAY 26 – Who isn’t looking for an excuse to wear that cute cat sweater or dapper dog t-shirt to work? The Winnipeg Humane Society (WHS) is inviting Winnipeg’s animal lovers to bust out their best animal-themed threads on Thursday, June 4th for their first ever “Rags 2 Rescue” day. Winnipeggers can help the shelter’s animals by registering for the Fairmont Winnipeg Paws in Motion, and spread the word about animals in need by posting their personal photos with the hashtag

Three long-term Rags 2 Rescue dogs that are in the WHS’s care are Marvin, Spot and Toby.  Each has needed extensive behaviour assistance, medical care, significant love and attention.  “Paws in Motion raises money for the thousands of animals we help every year,” said Aileen White, WHS Director of Communications and Public Affairs. “Every animal requires some type of medical care, never mind all the other needs and supplies that are required.  All of this adds up, meaning events like Paws in Motion help us continue to make this possible.”

“Rags 2 Rescue is a fun and interactive way to help out dogs like Marvin, Spot and Toby,” said White. “Money raised at Paws in Motion goes towards making dogs like these three get the help they need to find the perfect homes.”

Participating in Rags 2 Rescue is easy:

  • On Thursday, June 4, wear your favourite animal apparel to work, school, recreational activities or wherever you plan to be!
  • Talk to friends, family and co-workers about registering for Paws in Motion
  • Use your animal apparel as a conversation starter to encourage your friends, family, and co-workers to donate to your Paws in Motion page
  • Post your favourite photo on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter of you wearing your animal gear, and hashtag #rags2rescue

About the #rags2rescue dogs:

Marvin is a one year-old shepherd mix who’s a strong dog with lots of energy! He will require both physical and mental exercise in his new home to help him grow into the best dog he can be.

Spot is an 11 month-old American Bulldog mix who’s an energetic, fun-loving dog looking for an active family. Spot is still a puppy and may need some help fine tuning his manners.

Toby is a smart dog who likes going for walks, playing with toys and being around people. This shepherd mix is almost two years-old and would love to bond with his owners at obedience classes.
